Why Should My Construction Company Care?

The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) recently released a new report, Energy Efficiency in Buildings: Business Realities and Opportunities. This report includes the following compelling summary:
 

• Urgent action is needed to reduce buildings’ energy use, thus addressing climate change and energy use.
• We can dramatically improve energy efficiency today with existing technologies.
• Businesses that engage early with energy efficiency for buildings can gain a market advantage.

Leadership

The WBCSD report identified a lack of leadership in green building construction as one of the challenges to be overcome. As LEED contractors we feel it is our responsibility to be leaders in the application of green building principles and methods in Minnesota. Construction company leaders, along with most other industry professionals, overestimate the up-front costs of green building construction, and substantially underestimate the true savings. By setting a local example for the industry we hope to correct these misconceptions.
